Types of Acne Scars

- Ice Pick Scar: These are narrow and deep holes in the skin and are developed by an infection from a cyst or a deep inflamed blemish. The skin appears to be pierced by some sharp instrument like an ice pick.
- Boxcar scar: These are round or oval depressions with steep sides usually wider than ice pick scars. They give an uneven look to the skin. If the tissues are destroyed by an inflammatory breakout, it leaves the skin unsupported and creates a depression. These scars can range from superficial to severe depending upon the number of tissues damaged.
- Rolling scars: These scars cause a wave-like depression across the skin. The skin looks uneven but the depressions are not sharply defined.
- Keloid scars: hypertrophic scars develop above the skin surface. They commonly result after a deep wound. Keloid scars are more severe hypertrophic scars that grow larger than the original wound.
