Does your skin feel dull, patchy, and lifeless? No amount of beauty sleep or beauty products can infuse luster back into your skin. Well, aging is a truth of life that comes with dry patches, fine lines, and accumulation of dead skin over the surface of the skin. While we are young, our skin has this excellent property of regenerating, where the old and dead skin cells are continuously shed and replaced with new ones. However, with advancing age, the regeneration rate of skin cells reduces to a great extent and gives rise to uneven and lackluster skin. This not, only makes your face look dull and tired but adds years to your face. A chemical peel is one such great option that can effectively deal with all the conditions that are hindering your way to great skin. Let us have a look at what chemical peel is all about!
What is chemical peeling?
A chemical peel is a popular aesthetic method, wherein a safe chemical substance is applied to your face, hands, neck, or other body parts. The solution is then peeled off once it gets dried. These peels help in gentle exfoliation, rendering smoother, wrinkle-free, and rejuvenated skin. This method is mostly prescribed to improve the texture and appearance of your skin. The chemical that is applied results in the drying of the skin which eventually peels off. Thus, the new skin that emerges underneath is smoother, wrinkle-free, and more supple. Some of the most common chemical peels are salicylic peel, glycolic peel, lactic peel, vitalized peel, yellow peel, and pigment balancing peel.
Who is the suitable candidate for chemical peeling?
Now we have very safe peels available that can be used on most of the person's. Previously those who were fair-skinned and had lighter hair were considered the best candidates for chemical peel procedures, but now people having darker skin tones can also go for peeling sessions.
What precautions should be taken after the chemical peeling?
In case you went for a chemical peel, you need to take care of your skin post-procedure to minimize the downtime. Some of the precautions you need to take after getting a chemical peel are
Splash cold water on your face: using cold water on your face might help in soothing the post-process sensation.
Stop over-exfoliating: Peels in themselves are excellent exfoliants, therefore you do not want any other exfoliant for your skin after the procedure as it may irritate your skin.
Take care of moisturization and hydration: Peeling makes your skin more vulnerable to environmental threats, which is why you must moisturize your skin well and take utmost care of hydration.
Avoid sunbathing, sauna, or steam rooms: These activities can improve the blood circulation to your face and may result in tingling, redness, and irritation. It is thus advisable that you skip these activities for a few days after getting the chemical peel.
Use sunscreen: your skin becomes quite delicate after this procedure and harsh rays coming from the sun can potentially damage it. Thus, it is important to use a sunscreen of SPF of more than 30, after taking this treatment.
